Frequently Asked Questions

  • Functional medicine is root-cause, systems biology medicine. With functional medicine we ask “why” an illness or symptom is occurring and “how” can we restore health and wellness. In conventional medicine, there is often a focus on a single symptom or system and oftentimes medications are used for each complaint because there isn’t the time to get to the root cause.

There is a time and place for conventional medicine as well as for prescription medications, and I intend to work in conjunction with your Primary Care Provider and be a apart of your healthcare team. My goal is to bridge what is missing in conventional medicine with extended education, lifestyle & nutritional modifications.

I firmly believe that getting to the root cause is the most important step to health. I am trained in both conventional and functional medicine and use a blend of both approaches to provide truly holistic, integrative care.

  • The simple answer is No. Even though I am licensed as a Family & Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, I am not your primary care provider.

As part of our patient agreement, you must maintain an active relationship with your traditional primary care provider for yearly physicals, screenings, and urgent needs and care that we cannot provide in this model. We do not provide after-hours care for emergencies or urgent matters.

We are happy to collaborate with your PCP or other healthcare team members regarding your care if you would like us to. Please note, care coordination fees may apply.

  • All patients begin care with a comprehensive 90 minute new patient visit. This visit is designed to understand your full health story—not just isolated symptoms—and to determine whether Remedy is the right long-term fit for your needs.

    Your new patient visit includes:

    • A 90-minute, in-depth visit with your provider

    • Comprehensive medical history and root-cause assessment

    • Review of prior labs and records (when available)

    • Initial diagnostic and treatment strategy discussion

    • Personalized next-step recommendations

Following this visit, you will receive a clear plan outlining recommended labs, visit cadence, and care options.

New patient Visit 90 mins: $450

  • Remedy Functional Medicine is a cash-pay practice and does not bill insurance. This allows us to provide longer visits, deeper clinical review, and ongoing support without the restrictions of insurance-based care.

That said, most labs and prescription medications can still be billed through your insurance. We also accept FSA and HSA cards for payment.

  • YES! I see established patients in-clinic at my office in SW Portland. All visits are by appointment only.

  • At this time, we are only able to accept patients physically in Oregon, Washington & Nevada state at the time of the visit. Yes, you can travel here to see us!

Additional state licensing are in process (CA) as demand grows. Sign up for our newsletter to be the first to know when new states are added!

If you reside outside of these states, please contact us to see how I can help you. We do provide educational consultations to clients in other states. This means we can provide you with education regarding a particular health condition or medicine in general. In these visits, we do not diagnose, treat or prescribe medications. In other words, these visits are for general medical knowledge and direction only.

We are also happy to refer you to colleagues that are accepting patients near you.

  • We use a conservative approach to labs, supplements and pharmaceuticals. This means, we will only recommend what you actually need based on your history, clinical picture and goals.

Although functional medicine specialty testing can provide key clues into your health, there is a lot we can do to help you with just an expanded conventional lab set.

We believe in the right labs, at the right time for the right reason and we do not up-charge for any labs ordered.

Yes, basic labs can be billed to insurance, but we advise caution. It is not uncommon for insurance companies to deem certain labs as “not medically necessary,” even if the results could identify and help prevent acute or chronic health issues. Unfortunately, many patients find themselves unexpectedly billed at higher rates than the cash prices we can offer. Opting for an upfront cash price ensures transparency and avoids surprise bills arriving months after your visit. Keep in mind that we cannot control what your insurance will cover or the charges you may incur if coverage is denied. Choosing the cash-pay option allows for predictable, stress-free billing and often provides significant savings.

  • Yes! We’re happy to provide a superbill upon request for eligible visits. A superbill is a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement. It includes the necessary information—such as CPT (procedure) codes, ICD-10 (diagnosis) codes when appropriate, and our practice details.

Please note: Superbills are only provided for completed clinical visits. Clarity Consults, Health Direction & Career Coaching do not qualify for superbills, as they are not medical visits and do not include diagnosis or treatment.

We do not guarantee reimbursement, as coverage varies by plan and often depends on whether a formal diagnosis code is included.

  • We value teamwork, collaboration, and clear communication in healthcare, but we do not provide recommendations that would interfere with another provider’s treatment plan. Providing a list of suggested labs for another provider to order and/or interpret is not appropriate for us or for the other provider. Doing so, is a disservice to you, your time and health, as this approach often leads to fragmented care and lack of follow-through. Our focus is on working directly with you through a functional medicine approach to address your health concerns comprehensively. While we are happy to provide guidance on testing as part of our care, this must remain within the scope of our collaborative work with you, ensuring your time and efforts are used effectively.

  • All new patients start care through a structured onboarding program. Programs are the primary way Remedy delivers new patient care and are designed to ensure appropriate evaluation, follow-up, and continuity during the initial phase of treatment.

A la carte visits are available, but they are:

    • Billed by time, including all provider time spent outside of scheduled visits (such as prescription requests, forms, record review, or clinical messaging)

    • Limited by provider availability

    • Not guaranteed for ongoing or routine care

A la carte visits do not include ongoing access, longitudinal monitoring, or between-visit support and are best suited for limited, episodic needs rather than comprehensive care.

  • Yes, if needed. Medications are prescribed based on patient history, necessity and as part of a patient-provider agreement.

Prescription medications can be processed through insurance. In some cases, medications will not be covered, and in those cases we will work with you to offer alternatives. We work closely with several highly accredited compounding pharmacies and their pharmacists. In doing so, we will strive to get you the highest quality medications for the lowest prices.

To support safe prescribing and ongoing clinical oversight, prescriptions at Remedy are limited to 90-day supplies. Refills are not automatic and require appropriate follow-up.

We rarely believe it’s in the best interest of my patients to rely on chronic narcotics, sedatives or controlled substances, and thus infrequently prescribe them.

We do not store or dispense medications at our office.

  • Your appointment length will vary from 30 to 90 minutes depending on the type of visit. While we may not always use the entire reserved window, this time is set aside exclusively for you.

If you need to cancel or reschedule, please do so online or by phone at least 48 hours before your scheduled appointment. This allows us to offer the visit to another patient.

    • Rescheduling with less than 48 hours’ notice: A $100 rescheduling fee will apply.

    • Canceling with less than 48 hours’ notice: You will forfeit 50% of the visit fee.

Because of the nature of our services, we do not offer refunds for services already rendered, nor for any medications or laboratory testing.

  • Yes! Our clinic offers gift certificates in increments of $50 that can be used toward any of our services, from personalized health consultations to wellness treatments and memberships.

Whether it’s for a loved one ready to start their health journey or someone who deserves a little extra care, a gift certificate is the perfect way to show you care about their well-being.

Please be sure to enter your recipients full name and date of birth when purchasing gift certificates.
